Lauren Harris Jewellery is situated in Rye, close to the sea on the Mornington Peninsula near Melbourne Australia. As a craft jeweller she creates all her beautiful jewellery by hand using age old techniques combined with traditional and modern tools. Her pieces are each unique one off pieces which suit the individuality of Blue Pearls.
“Although I use all sorts of colours, materials and gemstones, my favourites are gems in the colours of the sea, local abalone shell, New Zealand paua shell, and especially New Zealand’s exquisite Blue Pearl”.
Lauren’s designs are strongly influenced by the sea, “I live in a beautiful area surrounded by protected national park and just five minutes walk to the ocean beach. I can’t help but be greatly inspired by my surroundings.”
Lauren’s love for the sea is why shortly after starting out as an independent jeweller she contacted us about using Blue Pearls in her work. Eyris Blue Pearls was delighted to help establish her individual style; Lauren tends to make heavier chunkier jewellery with strong bright jewels to attract the eye. This style has helped make the partnership between Eyris Blue Pearls and Lauren Harris such a great success.
Award winning european jewellery designer, Catherine Best, is putting Eyris Pearls into the super luxury end of the jewellery market. The Necklace “Star dreams”, pictured below, is a truly unique design. Fashionably ornate with high luster Eyris Pearls; the sparkling diamonds highlighting the vibrant luxurious blue pearls.
The blend of a fashion-forward design with traditional quality workmanship has been the key to Catherine’s success, as is her love of the blue pearl.
“Working with pearls feels really special and quite different to other materials, each pearl is unique, created by a living organism”.
Many thanks to Catherine Best for this beautiful picture.

Miss World New Zealand, Magdalena Schoeman travelled to London with a unique blue pearl pendant for a charity dinner auction held at the prestigious Grosvenor House on 9th November.
All 120 Miss World contestants donated a unique gift from their home country that was auctioned at the dinner with all proceeds benefiting The Variety Club International Children’s Fund.
After choosing a 19mm Special Select Eyris blue pearl named ‘Ocean’, Magdalena and the team at Eyris developed a design brief. Jacek Pawlowski from The Blue Pearl Gallery took the brief and created a heart shaped pendant with two stylized children forming the outside of the heart with the blue pearl as the centre piece. The design beautifully symbolised the Variety Club Children’s Charity. The pendant was named ‘Children of the Heart’ which captures the essence of the Miss World contest, and epitomizes the Miss World ‘beauty with a purpose’ theme.
Miss World New Zealand said: “I chose a blue pearl because they are unique to New Zealand, each blue pearl is nurtured to become a valuable item of enduring beauty in the same way that each child needs to be nurtured to become a unique and valued human being”.

'Children of the Heart' Pendant created by The Blue Pearl Gallery Christchurch.
Once in a blue moon a pearl is produced that is just like its name suggests – a ‘blue moon’.
In June 2006, while at the JCK Jewellery Show in Las Vegas, Roger Beattie of Eyris Pearls and Peter Bazar of Imperial Deltah discussed the beauty of a large 18mm pearl with such lustre and colour they could only dream of a fitting piece of jewellery for it. They talked of having a top US designer create a piece of jewellery using the pearl. They chose Marie Scarpa, an AGTA Spectrum Award winning designer, best known for her intricately hand woven designs.
Marie Scapa created this magnificent hand fabricated pin / pendant which she named ‘Blue Moon’. This work of art gained Marie second place in the USA Jewellery Arts Award in 2007. If you are interested in viewing this piece please contact us.
Details of ‘Blue Moon’: 18K gold and platinum, hand fabricated pin/pendant; bezel-set 18mm 7.15ct abalone pearl center and 64 spires divided into 3 levels. Woven, invisibly soldered. Embellished with 28 round faceted 2.0mm pink sapphires, 4 round faceted 2.5mm yellow sapphires, eight round faceted 2.5mm blue sapphires, 4 round faceted 2.9mm blue sapphires, 16 round faceted 3.0mm teal green tourmalines, 4 round faceted 3.5mm teal green tourmalines. Hand fabricated and hand woven. 2.25.

The black pearls of Tahiti, blue pearls of New Zealand and white pearls of Australia were on the itinerary for a group of Gemological Institute of America members when they set off from Los Angeles in late August on their world trip.
Since late last year Eyris Blue Pearls have been planning and looking forward to hosting 27 members of this prestigious international group. We were fortunate to be able to offer our hospitality and share our knowledge of the blue pearls to gemologists / jewellers from Austria, Switzerland, Lithuania, Malta and the United States of America. Their time with us included a visit to Akaroa and a trip to the marine farm, the Akaroa Blue Pearl Centre, our Blue Pearl Processing Centre and Christchurch’s Blue Pearl Gallery.
Even though their travel plans were disrupted due to aircraft mechanical problems in Tahiti and weather disruptions in New Zealand the group were in great spirits and fascinated by the many steps needed and processes involved to create New Zealand’s gem – the blue pearl. They have all taken away with them a huge respect for our humble Haliotis iris (paua) and its beautiful shell.
